Lee Jung-Sub

Suh Kuen-Tak
Abstract
Although an epidural hematoma of the lumbar spine is rare, it occurs most commonly after trauma, epidural catheter insertion for continuous anesthesia and an invasive spinal procedures. Because there is the possibility of a significant neurological injury such as pareplegia, it requires careful diagnosis and management. A spontaneous epidural hematoma tends to occur in patients with the risk factors for hemorrhage. However, the incidence of epidural hematomas without the risk factors for hemorrhage is quite low, and there are no domestic reports of a spontaneous epidural hematoma without the risk factors for hemorrhage. Thus, we report the clinical results of a spontaneous epidural hematoma in a young man. The diagnosis was made by an MRI scan. A favorable clinical outcome was achieved with conservative treatment.
